Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS PRP?
Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) is the product from centrifuging your blood to separate the red and the white blood cells from your platelets and plasma. Platelets holds the key to repair your skin injuries through binding and clotting. Plasma is the liquid component of blood without the red or white blood cells. Plasma and platelets contain important proteins or growth factors (GFs) that facilitates the growth and reproduction of fibroblast cells as well as blood vessels.
HOW DOES PRP WORK?
Once the PRP is extracted, it can be applied topically as a glide in microneedling applications. PRP can also be used in intradermal and subcutaneous injections in the face, neck for overall skin rejuvenation and improving appearance of scars as well as the scalp for hair restoration. Once injected, your body utilizes the concentrated platelet and the plasma to perform regenerative therapy.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
We recommend at least 3-4 treatments each administered about 4 weeks apart. During the initial consultation we will complete an evaluation and determine the appropriate treatment plan.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS AND RISKS?
Because PRP is natural substance extracted from your own blood therefore there is little to no risk. As with any injections, some side effects and risks include infection, bleeding and/or bruising from the effects of blood drawn and injections.
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE?
Because the PRP modality uses your own blood, there are very few contraindications and almost everyone will benefit in one form or another. Some known contraindications are anemia, thyroid disease, vitamin D deficiency, low platelet count, pregnancy and breast feeding. Always consult your provider before proceeding with any treatments.
