Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT ARE NEUROMODULATORS?
Neuromodulators, such as Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin®, are all FDA-approved prescription medicines from the family of botulinum toxins that are injected into muscles to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
When you smile, frown or make other facial expressions, the muscles contract under the skin. The consistent movement of those muscles draws the skin together and causes it to become less elastic. The result turns into frown lines and wrinkles. When injected into muscles, the neuromodulators blocks nerve impulses from activating the muscles, so the skin above may appear relaxed and the lines/wrinkles will begin to soften..
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
Neuromodulators can be used to treat Glabella (11's) /forehead, upper face, crow's feet, brow, nasal tip, lip area, lower face, masseter and armpits (hyperhydrosis).
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS & RISKS?
Like any other treatment, there are side effects to neuromodulators. Some of these side effects include slight bleeding, bruising or tenderness at injection site(s), mild tension headache. Rare but potential side effects include neck pain, vision problems and drooping eyelid/eyebrows. These effects are temporary and usually resolve within a few weeks. Please consult with your provider before beginning any treatments.
WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO SEE RESULTS?
Depending on Botox, Dysport or Xeomin, you may begin to see visible smoothing as early as 3-4 days after injection. The median first onset of effect is less than a week. The maximum effect is between 14 to 30 days. The duration of effect is from 3 to 5 months depending on individual patients. Regular treatments can lead to longer lasting effects.
