Frequently Asked Questions

HOW IS VI PEEL DIFFERENT FROM OTHER PEELS?

Obsolete peels of the past, without exception, epitomize the “no pain, no gain” approach to skin care. Before Vi Peel, the deeper the peel, the more painful, the more downtime, the better the results. Vi Peel is the first Next Generation Aesthetic. It is virtually painless, yet produces dramatic visible results in just days with little downtime.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED TO SHOW IMPROVEMENTS?

A single Vi Peel will achieve significant repair and add a healthy glow to the skin. Some conditions like acne scars, pore enlargement and hyper pigmentation might require multiple applications. It is a restorative and painless repair of damaged skin, including sun damage and acne. Chemical peels are a fantastic aging preventative, even for those without visible damage, and can be done a few times throught the year for maintenance.

WILL RESULTS BE LONG LASTING?

Like everything else in life, human skin needs maintenance. The Vi Peel’s wonderful results will last as long as skin care is maintained, sun exposure is moderate and preventive aging with the Vi Peel is performed three or four times per year. Medical grade skincare routine will enhance and prolong the results.

WHAT TYPE OF SKINS RESPOND WELL TO VI PEEL?

The many innovations that created the Vi Peel combine to allow ALL skin types to enjoy the benefits of the peel. For the first time, African-American and darker skin types such as Asian and Latin patients can experience anti-aging and restorative skin repair previously unavailable.

HOW MUCH PRECONDITIONING OF THE SKIN IS REQUIRED?

The VI Peel requires no preconditioning of the skin associated with older generation peels that can take three to five months.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE VI PEEL?

The skin will look slightly tan to red immediately after the peel. On days one and two the skin will feel slightly tighter with no visible signs of having a peel except for looking slightly tan, as if the patient just returned from a relaxing weekend at a resort. Any pigmented areas might appear slightly darker, which is a good sign. On about day three, the patient begins to peel. The first signs of peeling usually begin around the mouth area, continuing for a day or two. With the use of the Vi Derm™ moisturizer, patients go about their usual daily routine. By day six or day seven the patient is done peeling and the results are dramatic!

It is imperative to apply sunscreen during the week of the peel (and after!) to prevent any possible sun damage. Although tempting, it is important to not pick at or manually peel the skin to avoid any scarring or hyperpigmentation for best results.

CAN VI PEEL BE USED FOR THE BODY?

The VI Body Peel is incredibly effective in removing sunspots from the hands and chest and eliminating the wrinkles associated with sun damage on the décolletage. The provider will particularize the application for each patient.

Please consult with your primary care physician/practitioner prior to discontinuing any medications.

  • Plan your appointment well in advance and make sure you are not attending a party or a wedding venue for at least 1 week.

  • If you develop a cold / flu, cold sore, blemish, or rash, etc. in the area to be treated prior to your appointment, we recommend that you please reschedule your appointment until it resolves.

DAY OF YOUR VISIT

  • Please arrive at the office with a "clean face"—makeup-free and washed

  • Hydrate.

AFTER YOUR VISIT

  • Download the VI Peel App from either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Follow the step-by-step guidelines for cleansing, towelette and post peel protectant application instructions.

  • Makeup use is strongly discouraged throughout the peeling process. However, Intellishade may be worn if desired.

  • If significant discomfort is experienced when applying any product post-treatment, discontinue use of the  product and cleanse the face with soap and water.

  • After the peel, any areas of pigmentation (sun spots, freckles, etc.) may appear darker. This change in  color will be most evident on the second day. However, it can happen immediately. This is normal and  the darker skin will exfoliate during the peeling process.

  • When the skin is peeling, avoid sun exposure. The use of sunscreen is essential. When peeling subsides,  the skin will be more sensitive to UV rays and sunscreen should be applied every 2 hours.  ∙ During the week following the peel, a gentle cleanser is recommended.

  • Do not cleanse with a Clarisonic Brush until the peeling process is complete (usually 6-7 days). ∙ Refrain from forcing or peeling the skin as it can cause scarring. Gently trimming excessive skin with a  small pair of clean scissors is acceptable.

  • Typically, peeling begins on day 3, starting in the peri-oral area, peeling outward. The forehead and neck  are the last areas to peel. After peeling is complete you may resume your normal skin care regimen. ∙ Refrain from activities that can induce perspiration for 3-4 days.

  • Suggested maintenance treatments are 3-4 times per year.

Warning: If excessive swelling or signs of infection occur, please contact the office immediately. (Moderate swelling immediately post treatment is normal). Signs of infection include:

  • Drainage that looks like pus

  • Increased warmth and/or redness around the treatment area

  • Significant tenderness or pain around the treatment area

  • Fever - Temperature of 100.5F or greater
